Faculty Profiles: Finishing Off Their First Semester

Emile H. Hawkins

BUSINESS ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, CHAIR

Professional Title: Ph.D, DSL (Doctor of Strategic Leadership), also Chair of the Business Division, Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

Past Experience: Hospital Administrator, Miami, Fl., Chaplain with Air National Guard, Chaplain with the Tulsa Police Department, Senior Pastor in Tulsa for 12 years.

Why OWU? Dr. Hawkins is motivated by the fact that he gets the opportunity to “teach young people that Jesus is Lord in the work force that they will be going in to.”

Recent Memorable Event: One of his two sons has recently become engaged.

Random Fact: Dr. Hawkins's father is Cuban.

 


Barbara Fullingim

EDUCATION ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Past Experience: Professor Fullingim has taught elementary education for twenty-two years.

Recent Memorable Events: In 2004 Fullingim was recognized with five awards: Teacher of the Year at Central Middle School, Teacher of the year in Bartlesville Public Schools, Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year, Veterans of Foreign War Teacher of the Year, and the OWU Alumni Achievement Award.

Why OWU? Professor Fullingim enjoys a learning atmosphere in which faculty pray with their classes and share their life experiences. She has a passion for preparing students to become master teachers who exert a Christian influence in the public schools.

Random Facts: Fullingim lived in a grass hut for ten years while working with the Wiru people of Papau New Guinea. She received a pig as a wedding gift from a young bride she helped support through school. She taught the same young girl, Rebecca, how to cook cinnamon rolls, sew by hand, and make items to sell at the market -- all in exchange for lessons in the Wiru language.

 


Curtis Williams

EDUCATION -- INSTRUCTOR;
ATHLETICS -- TRAINER

Past Experience: Head Athletic Trainer, Oklahoma City University; Athletic Trainier, McBride Orthopedic Athletic Center, Oklahoma City

Why OWU? Williams loves the Christian values and the people of OWU.

Recent Memorable Event: Williams was chosen as Head Athletic Trainer for the World Cup of Softball, held this past July in Oklahoma City. Among the competitors were teams from France, the U.S., Canada, Great Britian, Australia, Japan and China.

Random Fact: Williams loves to bass fish. (His largest bass was 8.5 pounds.) He also has his M.B.A.



Linda Jones

MUSIC– ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Education: D.M.A., University of Oklahoma

Why OWU? “It was definitely a God thing and it felt like it ever since I stepped on this campus.”

Recent Memorable Event: “Accepting the position at OWU and moving from Oklahoma City to Bartlesville has changed my life.”

Random Fact: “My husband and I used to partner dance in competitions.”

 


Wilma Galatian

NURSING INSTRUCTOR

Past Experience: Professor Galatian has 40+ years of experience in the medical field. She graduated from Sparks School of Nursing in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1962. She worked in the emergency room (ER) for 25 years as well as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), operating room (OR) and practiced as a medical surgeon. She is presently in the masters program at Southern Nazarene University and will complete those studies in October, graduating in December.

Why OWU? Galatian loves teaching. “I think it’s such a wonderful Christian college and I wanted to be a part of that.” Her major goal as an instructor is to portray her enthusiasm for nursing to her students encouraging them to be caring, passionate nurses.

Recent Memorable Events: In 2003, Tulsa Regional Hospital recognized Galatian as Employee of the Year. She recently fractured her Fibula (ankle) after one week of employment at OWU.

Random facts: Professor Galatian has been happily married for 44 years and has three daughters and ten grandchildren. She attributes her success to the loving support of her husband.

 


Rebecca Le

NURSING INSTRUCTOR

Past Experience: High Risk Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby Care, Home Health and Hospital Education.

Why OWU? Professor Le chose OWU because she felt God’s leading. According to her, everything she has done or has been involved in professionally, including a background in missions, has lead to this point and place.
"I had no doubt.”

Recent Memorable Event: On April 7, 2006, Professor Le was informed that her adoption paperwork had gone through and that she was going to be a mother to a baby girl. “It was the one of the most wonderful days of my life.”

Random Fact: Professor Le loves bargain shopping and claims to be able to buy groceries for free given the right coupon and shopping conditions. “Wal-Mart is expensive because I buy everything so cheap!”

 

 


Darek Jarmola

RELIGION PROFESSOR

Prior to his arrival at OWU, Dr. Jarmola taught at Andrew College (GA) and at the University of Louisville. In addition to extensive research on the 16th century Reformation, he has done considerable research on improving andragogy (methods of teaching adults) and defining technogogy (methods of teaching online). Dr. Jarmola has been at OWU since 1994, and has been teaching in the Adult Studies program since 1999. In 2004, Dr. Jarmola was honored in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Darek and his wife, Denise, have two children: Darku and Kasia.

 

 


Michelle Gregory

SOCIAL/BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES INSTRUCTOR

Michelle Gregory holds the M.S.W. from the University of Oklahoma. Michelle is a graduate of OWU and has served as a part-time instructor since 2003. Concurrent with her teaching schedule Michelle serves as the OWU case manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Michelle will teach fulltime in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division. Michelle’s husband, Jon, is also a professor with OWU and they have one daughter.
